Viola Marie “ Nancy” (Shields) Ruby
Sunrise July 1925. Sunset June 2016.
The oldest daughter of Hoye and Matilda Ann (Shaver) Shields. Born 1925
in Napier, West Virginia. Nancy loved being from a large family of seven
brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Ruby will be buried alongside her loving husband of 62 years,
William “Bill” Ruby (2/2015). A private burial will be held at Highland
Township Cemetery located in Bloomfield, Ohio.
Nancy graduated from Burnsville High School, West Virginia in 1943.
After high school she pursued a career as a beautician. When her children
were born she stayed at home until each child began kindergarten. Her
children were her heart.
Viola Marie (Shields) Ruby was a nurturer, a graceful woman, all about
family, unforgettable once you met her, selfless, down to earth and
accepting.
Bill and Nancy watched their children grow up in Libertyville, Illinois.
Many fond memories of her clients from the beauty shop and neighbors
in Illinois, Nebraska and Kentucky.
We are at peace knowing she is sitting on a deck enjoying a cup of coffee
with family and friends. The sun on her face. Looking over her colorful
flower beds watching the hummingbirds, cardinals and antics of the
squirrels.
Nancy is survived by her son David and daughter Diane. Mom, we are so
grateful for your unconditional love and support. Even after reflecting
upon all the life lessons our mother taught us, we wish Mom could hug
us tight one last time in the comforting way that only a mother is capable
of. We find ourselves missing your smile, your voice, your gentleness and
mostly just missing you.
Viola Marie “Nancy” Ruby is survived by her brothers: Melvin Shields; John
Shields; Don (Marilyn) Shields. Sister Glenna Mae (Dana) Pauley.
Sister-in-law Dorothy Morrow; Marge Gladstone. Numerous nieces and
nephews. Her children wish to acknowledge their mothers lifelong
friendships from her childhood, career and retirement years.
Mrs. Ruby is preceded in death by her parents. Her husband.
Brothers: Roy Shields; Grant “Jimmy” Shields; Clyde Shields; Glenn Dale
Shields; William “Bill” (Helen) Shields. Sister Mary Shields. Sister-in-law
Betty Mae Douglass; Mary Marvin. Brother-in-law Gene (Cecelia) Ruby.
Extended family of Aunt Laura, Aunt Jiggs, Mrs. Silvers and Ethel.
To all of you that loved her, thank you for being a part of her life. She
was everybody’s favorite. Our mother was filled with a profound kindness
whose friendship she gave generously. Her infectious and luminous smile
will continue to brighten the days ahead for those who knew her.
“There is a smile blown in the wind, smile with it for it comes from me”
