A memorial service for Anita Cole Yancy was held on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Broadway United Methodist Church, with the Reverends Joe Beal and Lora Jean Gowan officiating.
Anita passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Lourdes Hospital surrounded by her family.
Anita began her Christian life in Paducah at Fountain Avenue United Methodist Church where she attended Church and Sunday school. She was a member of the Church choir and attended Methodist Youth Fellowship and Methodist Sub District Fellowship. In her later life she joined with her family in membership at Broadway United Methodist Church where she was a member of United Methodist Women, worked actively in the Keys II after school program and participated in numerous bible study groups.
Anita's work life began after her graduation, as a member of The National Honor Society, from Augusta Tilghman High School in 1951. She first worked at The Paducah Board of Education, and then began her civil service career with the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. After returning to Paducah in 1959, she worked for the City of Paducah Planning and Zoning Department, The Selective Service System, and then resumed her work in Health, Education, and Welfare in The Bureau of Hearings and Appeals. Anita worked in this position until her retirement in 1988.
Anita is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Frank H. Yancy of Paducah, two sons, David C. Yancy and wife, Adrienne, of Lawrenceburg, KY, Dr. Alling H. Yancy and wife, Abbey, of Smyrna, GA, and one granddaughter, Ava S. Yancy of Lawrenceburg, KY, two brothers, Allan C. Cole of Paducah and Albert C. Cole and wife, Mignon, of Spartanburg, SC, and several nieces and nephews.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Alling Cole and Anna R. Carter Cole.
