Norma Lee Hamilton, nee Ferguson, went to meet her Lord and Savior on September 7, 2016 from Baptist Health Paducah. She was home-birthed on January 9, 1928 to L. Z. and Ella Young Ferguson in Paducah. Norma moved to Reidland with her family after the 1937 flood and graduated from Reidland High School with the Class of 1945. Norma married her loving soulmate, Flavous Hamilton, on December 1, 1945. She gave her whole heart to God, family, church, classmates and friends. She never met a stranger and walked everyday where Jesus walked. She was actively involved in church at Northside Methodist Church and Reidland Methodist Church after baptism in 1936. She served on many committees and as a Sunday school teacher. She was also an active member of Church Women United, a racial unity group who bring women of faith together in prayer for global justice and peace. She enjoyed family outings and vacations with friends. After employment with Southern Textile Machinery for twenty years and another twenty years in personnel management with Sears Roebuck she retired in 1985 and began volunteering with Saint Nicholas Family Clinic. Norma had many talents including sewing, quilting and crafting. She also worked with the Telephone Pioneers to make heart and bear pillows for distribution to heart surgery patients and infant layette kits for hospital pediatric units in local hospitals. She was a 38 year Breast Cancer Survivor and worked faithfully with Relay for Life ministries. Norma was a charter member of the Reidland High School Alumni Association and Sears Retiree Paducah Unit.
Ms. Norma is survived by one son, Gary (Ellen) Hamilton of Prospect, Kentucky; one daughter, Melanie Hamilton of Paducah, Kentucky; three granddaughters, Jennifer (Doug) Wilham, and Kimberley (John) Wilhoit of Louisville, Kentucky, and Stephanie (Eric) Burres of New Albany, Indiana; five great grandchildren, Hannah and Caleb Wilham, Maya and Isaac Wilhoit, Sidney Burres; sixteen nieces and nephews. She is survived by a sister, Peggy (Charles) Hawkins of Paducah. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Flavous Hamilton, on April 16, 1998. He was a bass singer with the Hamilton Brothers Quartet for many years.
A commemorative service will be held at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 with Dr. Ben Boone and Rev. David Garrett officiating. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, September 9, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah. Burial will be in the Briensburg Cemetery located in Marshall County following the service.
In lieu of flowers you may wish to contribute to the Memorial Fund at Reidland United Methodist Church, 5515 Reidland Road, Paducah, Kentucky 42003. Those wishing only to pay their respect to family may do so before the commemorative service begins.
