Charles Eugene Sawyer, 90, of Paducah, KY, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the Ray & Kay Hospice Care Center. He retired after 21 years, as a Chemical Operator, with GAF Corporation in Calvert City, KY.
“Buzz” was born on November 1, 1925 in Paducah, KY to Vestal and Fannie Sawyer. He served his country in the United States Army, during World War II. He was employed with Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, prior to working at GAF. He was an avid fan of UK Basketball and St. Louis Cardinals Baseball, and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Hopkinsville, KY.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Johnnie Lou Owings Sawyer; his daughters, Jane Parker Shadburne and Cindy Parker Williams, both of Paducah, KY; his sister, Alline Inman, of Illinois; his grandchildren, Kotrina O’Neal and husband Brad, of Virginia Beach, VA, Chad Smith and wife Missy, of Fleming, GA, Adam Shadburne and wife Ashley, of Louisville, KY, Stacey Volk and husband Charles, of Denver, CO, Matt Williams, of Paducah, KY; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Snyder Sawyer; his daughter, Karen Lee Smith; his parents, Vestal Sawyer and Fannie Hovecamp Sawyer; his step mother, Inez Sawyer; his sisters, Elizabeth Palla and Doris Gorden; his brother, Tom Sawyer.
A graveside funeral service is scheduled for 1:30 pm Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Mt. Kenton Cemetery. Rev. Joe Beal will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am-1:00 pm Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home.
