Whitfield Sr., Tony

Tony Whitfield, Sr., 75, of Gilbertsville, Kentucky passed away at 9:14 a.m. Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Baptist Health Paducah. He was born in Madisonville, Kentucky. Tony served as Minister of Music for several churches including, Lone Oak First Baptist Church-Paducah, KY,  Immanuel Baptist Church-Paducah, KY, Calverty Baptist Church-Evansville, IN, Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church-Louisville, KY, Smithwood Baptist Church-Knoxville, TN, Thornhill Baptist Church-Frankfort, KY and First Baptist Church- Paris, KY. He was a Private Voice Instructor and was the Founder, Conductor, Director of the Paducah Symphony Children’s Chorus, Founder/Conductor of the Paducah Boys Choir, Adjudicator for the KMEA festivals and was Conductor of the All-District Choruses on six occasions, served as the Choral Director for St. Mary High School.Tony received his Bachelor of Music Degree and served as Associate Professor of Music at Georgetown University. He received his Master of Music Degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and was a graudate of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Tony was a member of the American Choral Directors Association, Music Educators National Conference, National Association of Teachers of Singing and the Southern Baptist Music Conference. He was a member and Faculty Advisor of the Lambda Chi Alpha, a International Social Fraternity and for the Phi Mu Alpha, a International Music Fraternity.

 

Tony is survived by his daughter, Alice Whitfield Wright and husband Joseph of Arnold, MO; son, Tony Whitfield, Jr. Gilbertsville, KY; three grandchildren, Ann Wright, Elise Wright and Johnny Whitfield.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgeann Hamrick Whitfield. His parents were Otha Gay Whitfield and Mary Alice Jackson Whitfield.

 

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Dr. Willis Henson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Kenton Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. unitl 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
