Louis A. Haas, age 75, of Paducah, KY passed away at 2:43 pm on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Lourdes Hospital.
Mr. Haas was a 1959 graduate of St. Johns High school. Upon graduation, he signed a professional baseball contract with the Milwaukee Braves. In 1965, he graduated from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and soon began his professional career as a cost accountant with GAF Chemical Corporation. Later, Mr. Haas joined L.S. Dubois Son & Co. Inc. as comptroller before eventually becoming CEO. Mr. Haas was a lifetime member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where he served on many boards while also serving as lector and usher. Mr. Haas was chairman of the St. Mary School Board System while also serving as head high school baseball coach from 1992-1995. In each of those seasons, his teams reached the regional championship, while winning the championship in 1994. He was a member of the Downtown Lions Club, served on the NWDA Board, and served as board member of Citizens Bank & Trust for many years.
Mr. Haas is survived by his four sons, Terry Haas and wife Laura of Gilbertsville, KY, Timothy Haas of Paducah, KY, Andy Haas and wife Tiffany of Paducah, KY and Chris Haas and wife Beth of Paducah, KY; two sisters, Marietta Haas of Paducah, KY and Charlotte Haas of Paducah, KY; one brother, Eddie Haas of Louisville, KY; and nine grandchildren, Aaron Haas, Bradley Haas, Drew Haas, Claire Haas, Jake Haas, Luke Haas, Bryce Haas, Brett Haas and Blake Haas, all of Paducah, KY.
Mr. Haas is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Kaye McKinney Haas; his parents, George Adam and Margaret Mary Roof Haas; and two sisters, Sister Jeanette Haas, R.S.M. and Barbaranelle Tackett.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December, 13, 2016 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Bruce McCarty officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah. Prayers will be said 7:30 pm with Father Bruce Fogle officiating.
