Thomas B. Milan, 88, of Paducah, died Monday, February 20, 2017 at Barkley Center.
Thomas was born on January 21, 1929 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to Noah and Rose Milan. After graduating from high school, he continued in the tradition of his father, three brothers, and son-in-law by serving in the United States Navy. He met and married the love of his life, Phyllis Jean Dennis, to whom he enjoyed a fifty-seven year marriage. Together, they raised six children. Of major importance to Thomas was providing for his family. His work ethic was notable, and even though absent from the home often because of long hours, his family was well cared for. His family remembers him returning from the coal mine covered in black soot. For over forty years, he drove an over-the-road semi-truck for both Union Carbide and Consolidated Freight Ways, logging over five million miles of accident-free driving. He enjoyed fishing, model die cast cars and dancing with his wife, Phyllis. Being a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, Thomas was able to cheer them through to a World Series win in 2016.
He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn R. (Michael) Butler of Paducah and Sheila M. (David) Erasmus of Chicago; three sons, Terry W. (Pat) Milan of Hickory, Barry H. Milan, and Tommy E. (Kimberly) Milan of Ledbetter; nine beautiful grandchildren, Tracie, Jodie, Christopher, Nicholas, Luke, Eric, Jacob, Timothy and Kaitlyn; five great-grandchildren, April, Hagen, Trevor, Myla and Dylan.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Phyllis Jean Dennis Milan; son, James L. Milan; and siblings, Roberta Sowers, Wes Milan, Dick Milan and Jack Milan.
Private funeral services will be held at a later date. Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
