Ellee Juanita Matthews Peoples, age 92, of Paducah, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017, 6:25 a.m., at her daughter’s residence in Paducah.
Ellee was a member of Rocky Ford Missionary Baptist Church where she had served as church clerk, treasurer, and as a Sunday school teacher. She was an active member of the West Kentucky Green Valley District.
She was a graduate of the former Lincoln High School and of Murray State University where she received both a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in education. She retired from the Paducah Independent School System. She was a member of the Paducah Education Association, the Kentucky Education Association, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
She is survived by two sons, William A. Minter and Michael H. Minter, both of Paducah; two daughters, Lettie B. Minter of Los Angeles, CA and Kathy J. Minter of Paducah; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; two sisters, Lottie Matthews Lecian of Phoenix, AZ and Leticia Matthews Rice of Cincinnati, OH; one brother, Leon Matthews of Cincinnati, OH; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Artist C. Peoples; her parents, Leslie Glenn Matthews and Lettie Beatrice Vinegar Matthews; one son, Jerry Minter; one daughter, Patricia Ann Minter; five brothers and one sister.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, August 11, 2017, 12:00 Noon, at Washington Street Missionary Baptist Church with Elder Gregory Williams, Reverend Raynarldo Henderson and Reverend Steven Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Friends may also call at Pettus-Rowland Funeral Home on Thursday, August 10, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will perform sorority rites at 7:00 p.m.
Friends may also call at Washington Street Missionary Baptist Church on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
