Dr. Lowell David Latto, age 80, passed away at his home January 8, 2016. He was born in New Philadelphia, OH, to John B. and Doris C. Latto. After serving three years in the Navy, Lowell attended Ohio State University where he received undergraduate and graduate degrees. He received his doctorate degree in psychology and counseling from Ball State, Muncie IN. Lowell then moved to Murray, KY where he began a career spanning over 30 years as a professor at Murray State University in the department of counselor education and through his private practice as a licensed marriage and family therapist. Lowell touched many lives during his life through also serving as a music teacher early in his career in OH, and at the end of his career by serving as a vocation specialist in the court systems for the states of KY and TN.
Preceded in death by his parents, and brother Jackie, he is survived by his wife, Shirley Tutor Latto, sons David (Kellye) Latto of Nashville, TN, Greg (Nada) Latto of Brentwood, TN, Joel Latto of Louisville, KY, Todd (Tammy) Cothran of Murray, KY, Eric (April) Cothran of Prospect, KY as well as nine grandchildren (Daniel, Alex, Lindsay, Savanna, Josie, Lilyan, Luke, Abigayle and Karolyne).
Lowell will be remembered by family and friends for living life to the fullest and for his gentle, loving nature. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, January 16, 2016, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church at 1601 Main Street, Murray, Kentucky. Services are being handled by Imes Funeral Home and Crematory, 311 N 4th St., Murray, KY, 42071, 270.753.8888. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made either to hospice through Murray Calloway Endowment for Healthcare/Residential Hospice House or Murray’s soup kitchen, Soup for the Soul.
