H. Sylvia “Icy” Curd, age 84, of Paducah, KY, passed away at 1:30 pm, on April 22, 2016 at her home in Paducah, Ky.
Ms. Curd was born March 30, 1932 in Secundrabad, India. She was a member of Broadway
Church of Christ in Paducah. She was an avid life-long learner and world-traveler.
During her career, she taught English in the Adult Literacy Program, taught English at Paducah Tilghman High School, and worked 27 years for the state of KY as Ombudsman for Worker’s Claims. Always concerned about helping others, she organized and started the Women Helping Women program; was a volunteer for the American Red Cross Disaster Team; and served 20 years on the W.B. Sanders Retirement Center Board.
Ms. Curd is survived by a son Jeff Nix Curd of Paducah, KY, a daughter, Vickie Curd Ladt (husband Ric) of La Jolla, CA, a step-daughter Phyllis Wooley (husband Robert) of St John, IN, and a step-son Jerry Hall (wife Patricia) of Brigham, Utah, and; four grandchildren, Preston Hendley, Jennifer Jones, both of Paducah, KY, Kelsey Curd Ladt of La Jolla, CA, and Steven Jeff Curd of Tulsa, OK, and one great granddaughter, Kirsten Brianna Curd Jones of Paducah, KY, two sisters, Bernice Crawford of Melbourne, Australia, and Kathleen Haney of Paducah, KY.and two brothers, Paul Stocking (husband Michael) of Palm Springs, CA, and Gary Stocking (wife June) of Melbourne Australia.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Garvin Nix Curd and her 2nd husband, Chester
“Poncho” Hall, her mother, Ailsa Stocking, and her sister Loreen West.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2016 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Dr. Dan Owen officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Paducah. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2016 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
