Trevathan, Dr. Pat D.

Dr. Pat D. Trevathan, a long-time citizen of McCracken County, died at 5:58 am on April 22, 2016.  He was 81 years of age.

Dr. Trevathan resided at 1835 Creekview Drive in Farley, and had been retired from all activities since January 1, 2002.  He spent fifty years in public service.  He served as a member of the United States Navy for four years of active service (1951-1955), followed as a naval reservist (1956-1959), firefighter, emergency medical technician, rescue technician, and instructor/instructor trainer for all these curriculums.  Twenty of those years were served with the Paducah Fire Department.

After his service with Paducah, he spent twenty-six years with the Kentucky Fire/Rescue Training Division of the Kentucky Fire Commission/Kentucky Community and Technical College System.  He was assigned as Coordinator and Chief Instructor for “Training Area One” with offices and training facilities at West Kentucky Technical College.

Dr. Trevathan also served as an adjunct instructor with the National Fire Academy, Paducah Community College, and Murray State University.

He served two years as President of Paducah Professional Firefighters Local 168.  He served seven years as Vice President and four years as President of the Kentucky Professional Firefighters (state organization).  He served 18 years as Parliamentarian of the Kentucky Firefighters Association and was inducted into the KFA Hall of Fame in 2003.  He was the first president of the Jackson Purchase Firefighters Association.

Dr. Trevathan was the First President of the Kentucky Emergency Medical Technician Instructors Association, serving three terms.  He served as Executive Secretary for eighteen years.  He was inducted into the Kentucky EMS Hall of Fame in 1993.  He also was the recipient of the Dr. Jack Carey Award, which at that time, was the highest achievement recognition one could receive from the association.

Dr. Trevathan graduated from Paducah Community College with an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Fire Science Technology, and from Murray State University with B.S. and M.S. degrees in Technical Education.  He earned a certificate in coordination and administration of Vocational and Technical Education after completion of a thirty credit/graduate level program at Murray State University.  He also graduated from the School of Biblical and Theological Studies (Dubberly, LA) earning the school’s Doctorate Degree in Biblical Studies.

Dr. Trevathan is survived by his wife Violet Wallace Trevathan; sons Carl (Angelia) Trevathan of Atlanta, GA, Mark Bundren of Paducah; daughters Valarie Bond, Angela Stokes, Vivian (Dwain) Medley, Dorinda (Dennis) Rednour and Michele (Keith) Nelson, all of Paducah, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.  His son, Jeremy Trevathan, preceded him in death.

A brother, Jack Dempsey Trevathan of Lexington, Kentucky, survives him.  A brother, Manon Kimble “Kim” Trevathan Jr., and a sister, Dora Kathleen Garland, preceded him in death as did his parents, Manon Kimble Trevathan, Sr. and Carrie Dean “Deanie” Watkins Trevathan.

Funeral services will be at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah at 1:00pm on Tuesday, April 26, 2016.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, April 25, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:30pm.  The Rev. Jason Medley, Youth Minister at Sharpe Baptist Church, will officiate.

Dr. Trevathan was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Paducah.
