Litty, Shirley

Shirley Litty, age 81, of Paducah, KY passed away April 26, 2016 at  her residence.

 

Shirley was born in Salem, MO to the late Wilbur Ray Walker and Wilma Audrey Smith Walker.  She is a graduate of Murray State University where she received her Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts in Education and Guidance and Counseling Certification.  Her career included teaching and coaching girls’ basketball and track at Ballard Memorial High School and Continuing Education Coordinator at Paducah Community College (WKCTC).  She was the owner of The Temporary Team and Professional Placement Agency, then branch manager of Olsten Temporary Service all of paducah.

 

Mrs Litty was very active in many civic organizations including:  Paducah area Chamber of Commerce, Paducah-River City Business and Professional Women; Leadership Paducah class of 1986; Leadership Paducah Alumni; Rotary Club of Paducah; Paducah Ambassadors; founding member of the board of Main Street of Paducah Inc,; and United Way of Paducah-McCracken Co.  In most of them, she served in leadership positions and was the 5th woman in the Rotary Club.  She had an article published “Coaching Girls Basketball” in the Journal of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

 

She received many awards and honors over the years including:  National award for PEPI (Physical Education Public Information); Woman of Achievement Award from the Paducah-River City Business and Professional Women; Golden Apple Award from the Chamber of Commerce for outstanding Former Educator; Banner Year Award  and The Chairman’s Club Award both from Olsten Corporation.

 

She is survived by her husband, James Litty; three daughters, Linda Litty of Evansville, IN, Jamie Thomas of Miami, FL and Tracy Darkow and husband John of Columbia, MO; one step-son Stan Litty of St. Louis, MO; four grandchildren, Lee Michael Keeling and wife, Melissa of Plainsboro, NJ, Lauren Thomas of Brooklyn, NY, Kelly Morrow of Evansville, IN and Jessica Thomas of Miami, FL; one sister, Evelyn Kaufman and husband, Bernie of Pasedena, CA; nieces and nephews; Suzanne White, Larry Moore, Lisa Anderson and Melinda Jordan.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Genevieve Gabel and Helen Moore and a brother Herbert Lee Walker.

 

Visitation will be held Friday, April 29, 2016 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Lone Oak Chapel Milner & Orr Funeral Home.  Interment will be at a later date in Salem, MO.
